International Conference on the Global Implementation of Aeronautical Data Link

The ATN2000 Conference took place in London on the 26th and 27th September 2000. It was organised by FANS IS with Elan Conferences, and in association with IATA and CANSO, and focused on the critical theme of transition to an aeronautical environment supported by Datalink. The conference was supported by an exhibition, and was attended by 220 registered delegates.

A CD-ROM of the proceedings is available for general sale, and has already been sent free of charge to Conference Delegates. The CD-ROM provides an online version of the Conference Proceedings including all PowerPoint presentations, audio recordings from each presentation, and other useful documents.

The scope of the conference included operational, technical, financial, regulatory and institutional issues that the community must address and resolve as it moves towards the future CNS/ATM system as defined by ICAO.The conference chairman was Andy Shand (British Airways). The conference was complemented by a pre-conference tutorial on 25th September.

The conference venue was the world renowned Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE). Highlights of the conference were a demonstration by Airsys/ATM of their ATC Centre HMI, and a case for mandatory equipage led by IATA. The debate that followed was chaired by Derek McLauchlan (Secretary General of CANSO).

The debate provided a forum for the early discussion of the issues involved and for those not already involved in the process to make their views known. It will be the start of the next phase in the process, which is the response from ATS Providers.

ATN2000 was sponsored by SITA and ACI. The drinks reception at the end of day 1 was sponsored by Airtel-ATN.
