ATN2002

Put together by active players and acknowledged specialists in the ATN arena, ATN2002 is unlike any other ATC conference. It focuses on the key technological issues of the day and features presentations from leading experts sharing valuable information and experiences about ATC Data Link development and implementation.

A delegate-only exhibition ran in parallel to the conference, giving delegates the chance to make useful industry contacts at every refreshment break. And for those new to the subject, a pre-conference tutorial on 23rd September was given and designed to bring you up to speed on the technologies involved.ATN2002 was an ideal opportunity to get first hand information on latest developments in ATC Data Link and CNS/ATM and to meet the people who are making it happen - a real shame for those who missed it!!

ATN2002 is sponsored by SITA and Aeronautical Communications International (ACI). The conference includes a Drinks Reception sponsored by Park Air Systems.

ATN2002 is supported by the IEE Aerospace Professional Network.

The conference was chaired by Steve Zerkowitz of IATA.

Conference Programme

Day One of the conference started where last year's conference ended. Sept 11 was only a week before the conference and was clearly going to have a major effect on the industry. We are pleased to welcome Joe Burns, Director Flight Operations Technology, UAL to present our conference keynote "The CNS/ATM Challenge in the post 9/11 World".

The big event this year is the FAA's CPDLC Build 1 which will go live at Miami shortly after the conference. Tim Hancock, NAS Implementation Lead, will present the current status of Build 1 and Jeff Hmara, Director, FAA Free Flight Phase 2 will present the CPDLC Benefits and Build 1A.

The first day will then move on to presentations on CNS/ATM experience and benefits. The conference will receive reports on FANS 1/A operations and on the technical work that has gone on this year to accommodate FANS 1/A equipped aircraft in an ATN infrastructure.

Day Two of the conference focuses on datalink technology. The day starts with ATN and ACARS security before receiving reports on this year's developments in VHF data and voice communications, including new work on Broadband terrestrial communications and datalink policy. By popular demand there will also be a panel discussion on this subject.

The final part of day 2 is concerned with technology developments in Cockpit Integration, Satellite Communications and IP and ATN Integration.
