SITA ATS Data Link Seminar - Agenda, Monday 22nd September, IEE, London

14:00 - 14:20
Overview of the SITA AIRCOM DataLink Service and ATS Applications

This presentation will provide a high level overview of the SITA Air Traffic Service, VHF and Satellite AIRCOM Data Link Services, transition strategy towards VDL Mode 2 and ATN in order to provide a context for the remainder of the Seminar.

14:20 - 14:50
SITA AIRCOM "FANS" and "Pre-FANS" Services and Status

Increasing numbers of Air Traffic Service providers around the globe have or are planning the introduction of initial ATS data link applications over the ACARS Data Link Service. As the world's largest Data Link Service provider, the majority of these Air Traffic Service providers have connected their ATS application systems to the SITA AIRCOM Data Link Service . This presentation will present the current status of "FANS" (i.e. FANS 1/A ADS and CPDLC) and "Pre-FANS" (i.e. Digital-ATIS, Departure Clearance and Oceanic Clearance services) implementation and explain the services that SITA provides to it's ATS customers in order to enable the high quality provision of the required services.

15:00 - 15:30
SITA FMC Waypoint Position Reporting Service

The new SITA Centralized FMC Waypoint Position Reporting (WPR) System referred to as the SITA CFRS was successfully cutover on schedule on July 21, 2003. The first SITA CFRS message was processed at 18:31 UTC.

In October 2002, NAV CANADA awarded a contract to SITA for the "design, implementation, and commissioning of a CFRS at the SITA facility, and SITA provision of CFRS service based on that system." The SITA CFRS service enables Air Traffic Service Providers such as NAV CANADA to receive Flight Management Computer (FMC) Waypoint Position Reports, also referred to as AOC position reports. Participating aircraft send their FMC WPRs via ACARS data link where they are then routed to the SITA CFRS system. The SITA CFRS system then converts the FMC WPRs to the formats required for destinations such as Air Traffic Service Provider(s) (ATSPs), a meteorlogical facility, or an airline.

This presentation will explain the operational details and benefits that ATS providers and airlines alike can potentially accrue through the use of this service.

Coffee Break

16:00 - 16:45
SITA ATS Solutions (DCL, D-ATIS, CATS, ADS-CPDLC GW, FANS WKS etc.)

SITA extended it's ATS product portfolio in 2002 to include the supply of industry standard compliant data link application systems including Digital-ATIS systems, Departure Clearance Systems, ADS-CPDLC Gateways (to enable the seamless co-existance of ATN and FANS 1/A services) and FANS Workstations. This presentation will provide an overview of these products and expand on the potential operational and safety benefits that implemementation of these systems will generate.

16:45 - 17:15
ACARS to ATN/VDL Mode 2 Transition and Partnership Opportunities

The SITA transition towards VDL Mode 2 implementation started in 2001 and has since proceeded to the point that there are currently over 25 SITA VDL Mode 2 enabled sites in operation today covering Western Europe, initial sites in the USA, Singapore and Australia. This deployment is set to continue to meet airline needs for increased bandwidth for their AOC communications and Air Traffic Service provider needs for an ICAO compliant CPDLC Infrastructure. This presentation will explain the transition from ACARS to ATN with a focus on the type of partnerships that SITA is discussing with the ATS provider community as exemplified by the recent VDL Mode 2 agreement signed with the Spanish ATS Provider, AENA.
